foto8 magazine is a thing of beauty - featuring amazing photography/stories/layouts and more. go subscribe and be inspired. these are good people doing great work... heres a spread i did for them a few years back. i remember i had their address on a scrap of paper and i turned up at their office by oxford circus with a box of prints under my arm. they were a bit weirded out by the fact that i had never phoned ahead to arrange a meeting, but the invited me in looked at my prints and ran this article.

so since i last put some news up here lots has been happening but here are the 3 stand outs for me as of late. i went to dundalk to photograph the ex bare-knuckle king of the travelers, a lovely fella by the name of dan rooney for an article still very much in the works but with the potential to be a cracker. i was brought along by my old mongrel pal and mayo-man of the year, eoin butler. more details of that day available here: http://www.eoinbutler.com/home/i-went-out-walking/
i also decided i am doing an exhibition in early november consisting of over 14 years of my photography about skateboarding in ireland and whilst up in my folks attic digging out old negs i found this bambi 7 inch. bambi were an amazing dublin punk band who would play in the old pipeline 2 skatepark during parties there. i was only a young gun at the time but i can still remember skating around the park to only the light from a strobe light as they played a sex pistols cover in the hole in the wall.
also ive been asked to present a pecha kucha thing in the sugar club soon also. its this thing where you have 20 seconds to talk about 20 slides so basically its just over 6 and a half minutes of sheer panic and randomness... come along if you are free. they are always really insightful and inspiring.

this photo was taken around this time last year during a hot, amazing week in new york. it was shot in coney island minutes before eating one of the worst hot dogs of my life. this family were shooting the air rifle game when i asked them if i could take their photograph. the dad, miguel handed me his card afterwards and i promised him i would post a print which i still have yet to do but i ordered the print for them today so it should end up with them soon enough hopefully...

found this scrap of paper in a box at home ages ago. it's the last remaining piece of a folded up A4 sheet of paper which had my entire list of phone numbers from back in the olden days of life before mobile phones. i managed to hold out until i was living on my own in austrailia in 2001 before i gave in and its all been downhill ever since....

my mam has this habit of getting words/phrases confused. when she heard that robbie williams had left "take that" she told me that the boy-band called "Ta Ta" had broken up... (so good!) also she knows i like ben & jerry's ice cream so one day after dinner at home years ago she told me that she had bought some of that "tom & jerrys" ice cream that i like. so that leads me to this: a few months back thinkhouse PR company asked me to design a bag for ben and jerry's. i don't know why they asked me but it turned out to be fun doing it.
i have a photo of northside rough-neck keith walsh in the new issue of sidewalk mag. he is lip-sliding the conrad hotel rail. i can distinctly remember staring at that rail with rob benson years ago convinced that no one would ever touch it. how wrong we were...

For The Love Of God
Art & Design Exhibition, Opening on 2nd July @ 7pm
Mill Street Studios, Mill Street, Dublin 8
2nd – 16th July 2009
Weekdays: 12-3pm and 6-8pm // Weekends: 12-6pm
“For The Love Of God” asked creatives from all over Ireland to respond to the brief interpreting “God” in whatever way they saw fit. The responses to this often controversial and ambiguous topic have been as varied and contrasting as would be expected. The pieces range from the literal to the abstract and often the idiosyncratic. It makes for an ecclectic and intriguing body of work that is not to be missed.
“For The Love Of God” will be officially opened by 2009 Institute of Creative Advertising and Design (ICAD) President and creative director extraordinaire David Joyce on 2nd July at 7pm at the Mill Street Studios, Mill Street, Dublin 8.
There will be live music from Ruairí Lynch plus complimentary drinks on the night.
‘For The Love Of’ is a new exhibition of art and design created and organised by graphic designers Ivor Noyek and Shane O’Driscoll. ‘FTLO’ will run twice annually with a new theme each time. This group exhibition will serve as a window to the innovation and freshness of work being produced by Irish artists and designers. ‘FTLO’ will also seek to create a platform on which to bring emerging and professional creatives together.
