old contact sheet found during a recent move. shot on my first medium format camera which was an ancient rolleiflex from poland my dad picked up for me. shot at the then "new spot" of the benches overlooking dublin bay in salthill. that seemed to be all we skated that summer. faces are jeremy evans, rob benson and a cameo from irish legend paul mckeane in the bottom left hand corner pictured smoking on an overturned wheel barrow next to the quarry skatepark in kilkenny.

ive got work in 2 shows over the next week. one opens in dublin tonight in versus shop/gallery at the bottom of cows lane which is all about alleviating self doubt. no doubt. no doubt. true. true. the other is a collaboation of some amazing artists and the mind/skills of a screenprinting master called stu. he is a serious legend. go stu! french is having one of his drawing screen printed with real pigs blood for the show which sounds tasty. stu had to go to this huge meat market in london at 4am last night to buy the blood from some shady butcher. i hope some vegetarian jazzer buys it.

on perhaps one of the nicest days of the summer of 2008 i met up with dublin based band "one day international" and shot a bunch of photos which they ended up using for the artwork on their debut album called blackbird which is out now. it was such a cool day floating down the liffey with them and getting lost in random woodlands. i recently heard the album and it sounds deadly so go check them out:
cheers eimear, matt, cormac, danny and rosco.

i think i can safely say that this shot of jason lee is my favorite skate photo of all time. i had this cut out of thrasher and blu-tacked to my bedroom wall for years as a youngster. hours and hours were spent staring at it and i think it might have been partly responsible for me ever wanting to pick up a camera myself. im pretty sure tobin yelland shot it.

On Thurs 16th of October I have a solo show opening in Monster Truck Gallery on Francis Street, Dublin 8. (www.monstertruck.ie). It is a new body of work I've been shooting since Polaroid officially announced that “Due to marketplace conditions, Polaroid has discontinued almost all of its instant analog hardware products. Polaroid has also made the difficult decision to cease manufacturing of instant film products in 2008”.
I panicked as soon as I heard this and this exhibition is the result: One mans analog panic. The show opens on the 16th from 6-8pm with a drinks reception and it will then run for 2 weeks so if you are about please feel free to pop down and have a gander.

I recently got to work with the softly spoken and very talented Scott Burnett at www.studioaad.com shooting the posters and artwork for the 2008 Fringe festival in Dublin which was a really enjoyable experience and I was really happy with how it all turned out in the end...
I was also nominated to be a judge for the Spiegeltent at the festival so I've been checking out loads of cool gigs there this week also. My highlights so far were The Fall and Cathy Davy's night featuring the magical Conor O' Brien. Amazing stuff. You can read the blog here:

here is a sneaky preview of one of the 6 prints ill be exhibiting this coming thursday (the 15th) alongside the very talented and all-round lovely illustrator lad chris judge (www.chrisjudge.com) for the opening of the shop/gallery that the turtlehead guys are launching. it looks like it going to be deadly so fair play and hearty handshakes to all involved....
Yawl are invited to the launch party for Versus? at 1/2 Smock Alley, (bottom of cow's lane) Temple Bar on July 17th from 6.30pm.
WHERE ART MEETS FASHION (AND GIVES IT A CHINESE BURN)
Versus? is a gallery/shop that pits art against fashion. Here we will pit different cutting-edge t-shirt brands from around the world against turtlehead's own designs, as well as pitting artists of all descriptions, photographers and musicians against each other. Everything will be on show for two weeks only, before we bring in 2 new artists and 2 new sets of t-shirts to go head to head. Each artist will be leaving one piece as part of the permanent display.
First up In the art category it's Rich Gilligan (photography) versus Chris Judge (illustration). In the music section, it's Rollers/Sparkers’ new album “Hames” versus their previous album “Second Level Crossing”, and in the t-shirt category is turtlehead versus Threadless.
Versus? will officially open with a launch party on Thursday 17th July, featuring guest artists and DJs. Also on the night, turtlehead will be launching a new t-shirt by the Irish artist Frankenstyles entitled "Touchy Feely". Versus? will also stock art and design books, quirky Japanese vinyl toys, satchels and other weird and wonderful art pieces from around the globe. And if all that's not enough there will be free beer from our new very best friends at Peroni, and yum yums from Diep.
